This
patch is created in honor of the 225th anniversary of the Battle of
Fort Ann that
took place on July 8th, 1777. It is documented that the first
“Stars and Stripes” were
flown for the first time in battle in Fort Ann. We honor this
event because it is
part of the history of our nation, and we shall
never forget the struggle that our nation
has endured to become what we are today.
The
basic design of the patch shall be that of the Maltese Cross. The
Maltese Cross
dates back to the days of the Crusades. The Maltese Cross has been a
symbol of the fire service since
the 10th
century.
The
cross is a symbol of the fire services’ willingness to make great
sacrifices to protect
others. It is a badge of courage, honor, heroism, and
service. The Maltese Cross
represents the principles of Charity, Loyalty,
Gallantry, generosity to friend and foe,
the protection of the weak, and
Dexterity in service.
The
flag on the patch represents the first United States flag to be flown
in battle.
The
fire hydrant represents fire protection, the basic and primary role of
the fire
department.
The
“Jaws of Life” represents the fire departments commitment to provide
rescue
services to the community, and the value of life
safety.
The
blue background of the patch represents honor and duty.
The
gold on the patch represents the value of the property and lives that
the fire
department is charged with
protecting
